Nearly all wearing components of combustion engines have been activated at our cyclotrons and have been measured by RTM: e. g. Automotive and utility vehicles power train, marine engines as well as aircraft turbines.
Developments of lubricants and additives in order to improve anti-wear and anti-corrosion porperties. The figure above demonstrates the activation of a cam shaft - precondition for an online wear test of engine oils.
Figure 4: Brake disk of a train in irradiation position facing the cyclotron beam line tube. Also complete railway wheel sets can be processed.
Reliable scheduling of servicing and commissioning tasks: Radioactive labeling in the section with the strongest bend allows for continuous measurement of the inside material removal during service. Figure 5 below: Setup for irradiation of a conduit bend for an ethylene plant.
A RTM compressor test bench for online wear measurements has been developed. ZAG has the special know how for wear tests of refrigeration compressors with radionuclide technique. Figure 6 below - piston with a ball and socket joint of a special refrigeration compressor.
ZAG Zyklotron AG offers the radioactive labeling of artificial bone joints (metal, ceramics, UHMWPE), and the appropriate wear measurement system for wear analysis in simulators.
